Most e-bikes ship with components specced for average conditions. Westwoods is not average conditions.
The trail system off Sam Hill Road is 39 miles of rocky singletrack — big drops, granite rock gardens, and technical lines that push stock brakes, suspension, and tires past their design limits fast. If you’ve ridden Westwoods on a stock setup, you already know what we’re talking about. Brakes that fade mid-descent.
Suspension that bottoms out on repeated impacts. Tires that lose grip when the lower trails go muddy after a New England rain.
These aren’t defects. The bike wasn’t built for that terrain. The right aftermarket upgrades are.
Route 1 commuters have a different problem. Stock battery range works fine in summer. Add cold Connecticut temperatures and winter road salt, and range drops, connectors corrode, and lighting becomes a safety issue rather than an accessory.
At EMX, we stock and install parts for both profiles — the Westwoods trail rider who needs more performance, and the Route 1 commuter who needs more reliability. We know which upgrades actually matter for Guilford riding. And which ones don’t.

Brought my Jaguar here to have full body PPF installed and their work is truly exceptional! The owner Chris was very courteous and Dylan who I worked with during the process was also extremely patient and informative. I went through the entire vehicle after bringing it home and couldn’t not find anything to complain about. Truly a flawless execution. I highly recommend SJ shop for all your needs!

I waited almost a week before writing this comment. The car came out absolutely beautiful. Extremely well done detail. Almost perfect 90%. I had the rims reconditioned. They came out beautiful. I had a flat tire next day. I have no idea where that was because of the rims coming off the car or not I highly recommend the shop. If you want your car detailed professionally, it is pricey that is the only reason it did not receive a five star.

We have been long time customers for detailing, PPF wraps and customizations. Chris and Dylan are true professionals who always make sure that we are 100% satisfied with their work. Highly recommend!

Second time I've trusted a vehicle with them and they didn't disappoint. Their shop is remarkable and they are super efficient and meticulous. PPF and ceramic for my McLaren and it's shining. Highly recommended.

Guilford’s trails and winter commutes demand more than stock. Get a free quote from EMX — compatibility-checked, professionally installed, and built for how you ride in Connecticut.
Buying parts online is easy. Getting the right parts for your specific bike and terrain is a different problem.
Every upgrade at EMX starts with a consultation. We look at your bike model, your current spec, and where you actually ride — Westwoods singletrack, the Shoreline Greenway, Route 1, or a mix. That answer determines everything: brake rotor size, suspension travel, tire compound, battery voltage compatibility. Parts that work on one setup can cause problems on another.
Once we agree on the right components, we run a full compatibility check before ordering anything. No guessing. E-bike electrical components in particular — controllers, batteries, display harnesses — have to be matched precisely to avoid power delivery issues or voided warranties.
Installation is done by our technicians, not handed off. We set torque specs correctly, test every connection, and take the bike through a real post-install evaluation before it goes back to you.
You leave with a bike that’s properly set up for your riding — not just a bike with new parts bolted on.
A Guilford rider running a Surron on Westwoods came in after his stock front fork bottomed out repeatedly on the rock gardens near the Dunk Rock Road entrance. We spec’d and installed a travel-upgraded suspension fork with correct axle compatibility for his model. Added a brake rotor upgrade at the same time. Post-install, he completed a full Westwoods loop without a single brake fade or fork bottom-out.
A daily Route 1 commuter came in mid-January after his stock battery range dropped significantly in cold weather and his lighting setup wasn’t adequate for early morning rides. We installed a higher-capacity cold-weather compatible battery, an upgraded LED light bar, and treated all connectors with dielectric grease for the salt season. Range and visibility both sorted in one appointment.

It depends on your bike and current spec. We assess both before recommending anything. For Westwoods, most riders need increased suspension travel and larger brake rotors at minimum. We confirm fitment before any part is ordered — no guessing on compatibility.
Yes. We source and install extended-range batteries compatible with your specific controller and BMS. We verify voltage and connector compatibility before ordering. Cold-weather battery options are also available for riders commuting Route 1 through Connecticut winters.
We handle everything in-house — sourcing, compatibility check, installation, and post-install testing. You don’t need a separate shop. This matters for electrical upgrades especially, where incorrect installation can cause controller damage or void your warranty.
Mostly low-wear — it’s paved and flat. But salt air along the Sound still corrodes connectors and fasteners over time. If you ride it through winter, dielectric grease on all connections and stainless hardware are worth adding.
Yes. We stock and source parts for all major performance e-bike brands regardless of where you bought the bike. Bring it in and we’ll assess what it needs and confirm what fits before ordering anything.
